The first attack happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday. A 39-year-old man was slashed in the chest and the back of the neck after a dispute with a person who made an anti-Asian comment on a train approaching the York Street station in Brooklyn, police said. The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Unit is investigating.
Around 5:30 p.m., a 54-year-old man tried to intervene when he saw someone punching another person on a platform at the Court Square-23rd Street station in Queens, police said. They said the person who’d thrown the punches then head-butted the would-be peacemaker, grabbed his hockey stick and bashed him in the back of the head.
Both victims were treated at hospitals for their injuries.
