After a preliminary investigation, police believe a 59-year-old man, later identified as Rae Park, was shot and killed amid a robbery attempt as the victim sat in his car.

Atsuko Obando, 54, was on her way to work as a nurse and had just gotten off of a 1 subway train at the 116th Street-Columbia University station around 6:30 p.m. Sunday when the suspect slammed into her from behind with his bicycle.
The 54-year-old said as much as her back hurt, the attacker’s dismissive attitude was just as painful. “I sensed his entitlement, as if he had some kind of divine right to hurt another human being,” Obando said. Obando was able to walk to the emergency room, but she has been unable to work since.

In February last year, Liao was waiting at a San Francisco bus stop in his wheelchair when Eric Ramos Hernandez allegedly ran up and brutally jump-kicked Liao, knocking him to the ground headfirst, causing him to black out an causing a blood clot. He had to get an operation to drill into his skull.
After release, Hernandez was arrested for trespassing, which Thursday’s judge stated was a non-violent misdemeanor. With Liao’s attack, Hernandez was charged with elder abuse and not a hate crime.

According to a police report, the juveniles and the woman bumped into each other as the train car jerked forward. The woman pushed them off of her and they began to argue. Then, each of the juveniles struck the woman in the face.

SDPD investigating hate crime after 81-year-old Asian man was attacked
The 81-year-old man, Mark Sonouvong, is recovering at Scripps Mercy Hospital, after being beaten Friday morning.
Now San Diego police say they have opened a hate crime investigation.
“They were afraid of a punctured left eye, he had a laceration on his forehead, guy kicked in his ribs pretty good and bloody nose, big, large black eye,” said Dennis Lambert. “He’s beat up pretty bad when I went to see him.”
Lambert says at around 10 a.m. Friday morning, Sonouvong was going about his typical morning walk.
“Some fellow came up and asked, ‘are you Chinese or Vietnamese?’ and my brother-in-law said leave me alone,” said Lambert.
That’s when the suspect, knocked him down to the ground and beat him up, according to Lambert.

A registered sex offender is facing a new set of charges after police caught him raping an Asian woman at a Manhattan construction site on Wednesday.
The scene: New York police had to physically pull Darryl Phelps, 61, off the woman at around 1:30 a.m. under scaffolding at a construction site on West 28th Street near Eighth Avenue in Chelsea. A witness who saw the attack called 911.
The victim said she was walking home when Phelps punched her face, the New York Daily News reported. The suspect, who stands at6 feet and weighs 200 pounds, then raped her while he was “holding her down on the ground.”
“I want you to have my baby,” Phelps allegedly told the victim, according to the New York Post. He was still raping her when officers arrived on the scene.
The victim, a 23-year-old restaurant worker, was taken to Lenox Health Greenwich Village. She sustained a bruised eye but was brought to the medical care facility in stable condition,
However, a police source told the New York Post that “she’s not mentally OK after that.”
