She was walking in front of Hair Cutters at 116-23 Queens Boulevard around 1:30 p.m. when a male assailant tackled her to the ground, according to the Forest Hills Post. No robbery. No words were exchanged. Meanwhile, the victim’s left eye is swollen shut, but she says she’s grateful to be alive.

Go, who was attacked by a homeless man, Simon Martial, had been waiting for a train at the Times Square station when she was pushed from behind. Though the incident is not being investigated as a hate crime, the community is reeling, mourning and on edge against a backdrop of increased hate crimes and attacks, Asian American advocacy organizations say.

“This guy was trying to separate them and he became a victim,” said John Valdez, a neighbor. “Very sad. Very sad.”
“He was so young,” said Ashley Pei, a 7-Eleven patron. “That’s horrible.”
According to police, the victim was trying to break up a fight when he was stabbed. Following the stabbing, two of the suspects then assaulted his friend before fleeing.
The stabbing victim was rushed by ambulance to a hospital, where he died. His friend was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.Garibay was booked on suspicion of murder, while Alegria and Dehorney were booked on suspicion of attempted murder.

The owner’s wife said the suspect opened the door while yelling, then walked away, came back, yelled again — mostly slurs against Asians. The owner, who was working in the back, came out and was attacked until he was unconscious.
After the victim woke up in the hospital, his wife said he didn’t remember what happened.
